About Karen Perry

Karen Perry is certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist.  Karen received a bachelor’s degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master’s degree in counseling psychology, from the University of Houston at Clear Lake.

     A few areas of counseling include depression, anxiety, eating disorders and marital problems, grief issues, OCD and drug and alcohol addiction.  Her work with children and teens include school related problems, such as motivation, organizational skills, attention deficit disorder and teaching peer pressure reversal skills, anger management.  Karen sets goals with each client and works on the basis of solution-focused therapy.

     Ms. Perry has taught psychology and child development at the college level, and has consulted with numerous school districts and businesses.  Consulting services have included psychological assessment, workshops and counseling with parents and administrators.  Ms. Perry is an accomplished speaker. She provides seminars to businesses, churches and school districts on such topics as communication, healing after divorce, parenting and family relationships.

     Ms. Perry sees clients by appointment only.  Appointments can be made Monday through Friday by calling (713)973-2147.  She is on most insurance plans as well as Employee Assistance Programs.



Office Information

  1. Messages are checked several times a day. I will return your call as soon as possible.  Be sure to leave several numbers where you can be reached. When calling, follow my directions on my voice mailbox. Talk slowly and repeat your phone number twice.  Keep in mind if you are using a cell phone, the message may not come through due to bad reception.  If I do not call you back within 24 hours, please call again.  If it is a life threatening emergency please go to the nearest hospital.
  2. The fee for a 45-minute session is $90.00 if you do not have insurance. A sliding scale is also available based on your income. Payment is expected at each session.  You will receive a receipt with each payment. Usually mental health insurance benefits will have co-pay, which is due at the time of service. Please be aware that all managed care plans involve us working together with the company to determine the nature of your treatment and therefore, does have some impact on confidentiality. I accept all insurance except Medicare.  However, you need to check with your insurance and see if you need a pre-authorization.  If so, ask for the authorization number and bring it in to your first session along with how many sessions have been authorized. I also am on most Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) in which your company provides a specified number of free sessions.  You are to obtain this information and authorization before you come in for your first session.
  3. You will be billed for any telephone consultation which exceeds ten minutes.  This fee is based on the hourly rate on a per minute basis.
  4. If you need to reschedule an appointment, please contact me at least 24 hours in advance so that your time can be made available to someone else. You will be expected to pay for sessions not canceled 24 hours in advance.  Monday appointments must be canceled before that same hour on Friday.
  5. Information discussed is confidential and will not be shared with others without your written permission.  This includes telephone inquires.  Please ask for a Release of Information form from me, fill it out and return it to me if there are counselors, physicians, or teachers with whom you would like information shared.
  6. As my practice is based mostly on receiving referrals from clients and professionals, a referral is considered a display of confidence in my work and a great compliment.  Any referral from you will be greatly appreciated.
